Kazu Harada was born in 1974 in Japan. He studied art history and also worked as an IT specialist on the side. The art of automata only concerned him as a hobby at first. In 2006 he made a pilgrimage to Falmouth to get to know the "big names" in the automata making scene there. He worked at the Fourteen Balls Toy Company, the outfit set up by Paul Spooner and Matt Smith, and developed his own style in the process.
