The Polygraph or Lie Detector is a piece of apparatus that some believe in, possibly because of its popular name. Others think it’s detecting only some of the possible symptoms of a liar; sweaty hands, erratic heart rate, raised blood pressure, which may be due to causes other than an intention to deceive. Certainly its ability to detect lies is less certain than a metal detector’s to detect metal. Some liars (the barefaced type) can lie easily without any change in their physiology.
It only took a day to make this machine (lie).
When I started it I didn’t know what it was going to be about (true).
The mechanism is an invention of my own (probably a lie).
I didn’t think of the title until several days after I finished it (true).
Its height is 198mm (not always true because its head drops down 3mm while it’s working).
The smiling face and the grinning one are always telling the truth (lie, because the head can be recalibrated to show the opposite case).
Height 198mm (usually) x Width 100mm x Depth 44mm
