A new one-off automaton by Paul Spooner.
Spooner writes “One of the least helpful traits of the human animal is to maliciously create false impressions of those unlike ourselves. The new Scary Dolls range of mechanical toys seeks to point up the absurdity of stereotyping or ‘othering’ attitudes. There is no need to be scared; some of these dolls are just like you and me, blameless creatures doing their best to chop up sausages and serve them to a hungry unseen multitude on the other side of the serving hatch. The Scary Dolls’ Hospital, in which tiny wooden women dissected little pipe-smoking men using blunt carpentry tools, should have been forgotten by now. But the evil reputation lingers on and otherwise level-headed folk still shudder at the thought of those atrocities long since sedimented under the sands of time.
Look out for others in the series: The Scary Dolls’ Sex Shop, The Scary Dolls’ Neighbourhood Watch and Cooking with Men.”
