There is no logical link between the three objects depicted in this scene. Its title has been carefully chosen at random. Such is the fatuity of the human mind that the above statements will be taken as an invitation to seek meaning in this combination of objects and title. When my grandmother was pregnant with my father, she was taken to the Glasgow Empire to see an elephant. Will that satisfy you? I thought not.
Because the elephant’s pool was excavated too far to the left of the table for compositional harmony, the grey man’s hand has been allowed to intrude on the scene. In order to give his hand some reason for the intrusion, it is holding the elephant’s tusks and eyeballs. Out of eyeshot, the other hand holds a pair of ears.
